Employment and Labor in Costa Rica

Just like every country in the world, Costa Rica has some strict guidelines set on its labor and employment domain, the first one of which is the work permit that's to be procured by all who enter the country irrespective of tourist or business visa.

The process requires filing a petition as the initial step; immediately after the petition is accepted, the procedure for changing the applicant's immigration status to a valid work permit begins.

This might also involve procuring an additional temporary resident permit category; however, if someone is looking forward to obtain their work permit prior to arrival, it shall prove convenient for them to know that the procedure for doing so is much more complicated and shall require massive additional documentation.

Obtaining a work permit usually takes anything between 30 and 60 days after the receipt of a residence permit, which may take anything between 90 and 180 days; valid for one year, work permits require a renewal every year, irrespective of the type of work and ranging from scientific researches, professional fields and teaching to working for the technical fields.
